Coasters, those small yet essential accessories, serve a significant purpose in our daily lives. They act as a barrier between your beverage and the surface, preventing moisture from coming into direct contact the surface beneath. Without a coaster between a beverage container and the surface, damage, such as water rings, can occur.

The first coasters were designed for decanters or wine bottles so that they could be slid (or "coasted") around the dinner table after the servants had retired⁹. Coasters, in some form or another, have been in use since about 1760, and often were siimply a shallow tray or dish made of silver, papier-mache, or wood.
